Grand Rapids proves that it is not “dying” by getting a whole bunch of people together on a work day to perform on camera?  Wouldn’t a town that wasn’t in dire straights have produced a video with like 10 people with signs that said “we’re too busy to make a clever video"  wait scratch that, Detroit, I won’t steal your thunder!

Lip Dub of the Day: Newsweek published an article a while back which stated that Grand Rapids, Michigan, is high up on the list of America’s “Dying Cities.”

So Grand Rapids responded by getting 5,000 residents together to perform an elaborate lip dub of Don McLean’s “American Pie.” Obviously.

Newsweek subsequently offered Grand Rapids a contrite rejoinder, saying the article was picked up as part of a content sharing deal with mainstreet.com and was not penned by Newsweek. “it uses a methodology that our current editorial team doesn’t endorse and wouldn’t have employed,” Newsweek goes on to say. “It certainly doesn’t reflect our view of Grand Rapids.”

Oh, get a room.

Before And After of the Day: Missourian Aaron Fuhrman — a self-taught landscape photographer — has been traveling around Joplin, photographing heartrending panoramic shots of the devastation left in the aftermath of Sunday’s tornado.

Fuhrman lined up one of these panoramic photos with a Google Street View screencap of the same intersection to illustrate the comprehension-challenging extent of damage caused by the twister.
