Kevin was born on the mossy hills of Scotland and lived for a while in West Lothian before the mores of pre-Thatcher and REALLY pre-Oasis Great Britain sent his family across the ocean to North America. They moved here and there and Kevin did the same when he was old enough. Now he lives in London with his family and a Dog.

Kevin Wardrop is an amateur writer, amateur photographer and professional pain in the ass. He has worked in the PC support business for most of his adult life and has been accustomed to simply answering technical questions as a matter of fiat, it was his career choice after all. Now he herds cats and puppies for a living as well as babysitting the web enterprises at the heart of western industry.

The CRTC’s controversial decision to substantially increase Internet costs to Canadians will be reversed, the Toronto Star has learned.

“The CRTC should be under no illusion – the Prime Minister and minister of Industry will reverse this decision unless the CRTC does it itself,” a senior Conservative government official said Wednesday.

“If they don’t reconsider we will reverse their decision.”

The promise to reverse the ruling comes as CRTC Chair Konrad von Finckenstein is scheduled to explain the decision Thursday before the House of Commons industry committee.

Notorious Homophobes and Christian Values expounders Chick-fil-A were an unknown quantity to me when I first visited Virginia in 1999.  I had never seen their “Eet mor Chikin” signs nor even ventured inside one of them; and I may never ever if things continue on path.  I’ll remember Virginia for it’s temperate November, it’s hard to find liquor store and sinking me back into the morass of comics that I had abandoned not 2 years earlier.

How do rich people get rich? Scott Adams is as rich as he is because the government will make you pay him money if you distribute his work without paying him. Yes he is funny, yes he is talented, and no that doesn’t mean anything without the government keeping a newspaper from just copying yesterday’s Dilbert from some other paper and telling him to fuck off. He would probably be able to make a fine living doing the equivalent of busquing in print absent the state but he wouldn’t be rich.

It is idiotic for a person who only makes money because of a state enforced ban on the digital and mechanical reproduction of a cartoon to even muse that the people are insufficiently grateful to him for his contribution. Creating a world where people pay IP holders according to rates negotiated is not going to happen absent government, it is not a given, and it is not cheap. Creating a world where people generally think it is wrong to not pay IP holders is not a given and is not cheap.
