Oddness, Do you Want a job?

Reflecting on September 11th

What are your personal memories of September 11th?

From myolder blog:

I’m not 100% sure I will get this right, as it has been 2 years, and it was all so surreal to begin with. I’ll attempt to remain unvarnished, and attempt to portray my actual thoughts. So, Click MORE to see what NiteMayr thought of September 11, 2001.

At Around 8:00 AM (EST) I was arriving at my desk on the 7th(?) floor of the office building where I worked. It was a normal day, I had been listening to my Mp3 player, and not the Radio on my way in. It was a typical Tuesday morning.Later, Doug (Sweedish Chef) came into the office and told us that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. We all began to scramble for news, and ran to the TV in the lunch room for news. Sure enough a plane had crashed into it he world trade center. The newscaster was talking about another plane abut to crash, but it wasn’t true, just some smoke.

We ran back to our desks and started scambling for news feeds about what was going on in New York. Luckily the local 24 hour news station had a live feed and it was clear and strong. That feed never halted for the rest of the day.

Now, my recollection of the events become real hazy, as I was blinded by the thought that the US government might have actually “let” some planes fly into buildings to justify some nefarious agenda. And I said as much to the people around me. When we were told it was “palestinians” I was willing to believe it, but found it hard to believe just the same.

When the first tower when down, the newscaster said ” I don’t want to think about what that looked like” It looked like a mushroom cloud to me too.

Around this time the CN tower was evacuated and there was some sort of fire in a parking garage down town. We could see the CN tower really clearly from our office, we thought we might have had a seat for yet another plane crash. The planes never came.

I was a wreck by this point, but we could not leave the office. We had been told to stay and work, as customers may need help.

It turns out that more than a few people did indeed need help with their stupid computers that day. A few people in Virginia earned my undying emnity that day, for knowing what was going on, but continuing business as normal. these were schools… I would have sent the kids home, to be with their families, to deal with this insane day.

The day rolled on, with endless shots of the planes and the buildings…It ground me down.

On the way home. I was sitting on a bus, south on Don Mills, I couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that this WAS just like the movies. The streets were empty, the papers were screaming the headlines from that morning…I eyed every arabic man I saw with suspicion.

When I got home I couldn’t stop watching the news, then the ghouls started showing the people falling form the buildings, it was too much, I started crying and blubbering over it, I still do when I see that footage.

You see, I had just been there.

I had just stood there, where the people were falling, and dying.

I was there, just a week earlier.

Now it was gone.

Two weeks before the Towers fell, I was in New Jersey, embarrassed at how impressed I was by the towers, and apparently charming the Taxi Driver by my Awe and embarassment.

Now, these two buildings, that I found so amazing were gone.

I woke up each day in New Jersey, with a view of the Empire State Building and with a little effort of my own, got to see the towers up close, (from where Homer Saw them)

I was devastated by the whole thing.

I would never get to share this experience with my Daughter, never let my wife hold me close in fear and terror from the sheer height of them.

I hated the people who let this happen, I was, and remain sure that the Bush government LET this happen.

Osama needed to be caught, but so did the fools who let this happen.

I still ask myself, how did four planes escape capture or destruction at the hands of the worlds most formidable Air force?

How did the worlds most secure building get hit by a plane, especially after the same thing had been attempted just years earlier at the white house.

Mourning Mornings

It’s a morning at the office, just like any other morning.  I walked in, dumped my lunch in the fridge and filled four pots of coffee (over half an hour).

I’ve put up some nice bloody handprint stickons on my white board (they are made of the same stuff those stick hand things are)

It’s september 11, the day the laughter died.  So you know, I’m watching all the footage and feeling bad again, it still makes me twinge up with anger at middle eastern people when I watch the footage (which is what I’m being conditioned to feel I guess) but I always end up at the same place. How did this happen in the country where more money is spent on the military than health care and education?

Like the Gulf of Tonkin I’m sure that history will not be kind to this date.

Work, Woah!

It was a pretty busy and at times frustrating day at the office.

I’m working alone, which is usually okay, as the volume of work is reasonable (we have a bunch of great team mates) but I have a project going on that is really time consuming that will only require more and more focus tomorrow.  Oh well.

I’m still pretty jazzed about Crank; I’m really tempted to go back to see it again.  If it is still in the theatres in three weeks, maybe I’ll go see it to celebrate my 31st.

Speaking of celebrations, I’m sending cash to my Sister-in-law by way of a check next month; I know she needs the cash.  On top of that It’s both of my “by blood” nephews birthdays next month, as well as my moms (same day as mine), it’s going to be a big month.

Not to mention my favourite holiday (barring Christmas) HALLOWE’EN!!!

Time to start work on my makeup for the big night.  Maybe I’ll try to make a real looking  neck gash.

I love Halloween.

Crank, Yeah!

Sorry

Sorry I haven’t written anything, I know someone out there is waiting for my burning missives!
Anyway, over the long weekend I really didn’t feel inspired and over the past 24 hours I’ve been in full-on zombie mode, sleepless and moody.

Anyway, I worked a full day (+1 hour) on 2 hours sleep today and came home, not ready to nap yet.  I decided I wanted a nice 1.5 hour nap and asked to be woken up at 5PM (which means I would really be awake by about 5:30) when I finally woke up at about 6:30 I cursed myself for napping too long.  However, I’m still kinda sleepy which is great.

The new season of House is on, so yeah, I’m in the happy place.  I’m going to try and infect my co-workers with House this week; look out.

I have a new comic buddy at work, this guy named Jason has been getting a frequent fix from me and really looks to be enjoying it.  I think my Cube mate Curtis might be getting curious too.

All is well, I’m just on pins and needles until my life makes another leap forward…. hold on, just a second.  Just checking in at work, the phones are working again. Phew.

The Crocodile Hunter is Dead

THE Crocodile Man, Steve Irwin, is dead. He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It appeared that he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest, Queensland Police Inspector Russell Rhodes said.”

Holy Crap!

I’m surfing the web and I see that Steve Irwin has died.  That’s really sad.  He was a good ambassador for Australia and Australian animals.  I think he has two small kids and his wife is from the local area.

RIP Steve.

Foodie but a Goodie

Last night NiteGirl made some REALLY great tacos.  I Should ahve taken some pix of them, I’m not a taco fan, but these were great.  The Shells were great, the meat was great the sauce was great.  Yum!

I’ve been jonesing for Greek all week and after some nice Souvlaki at work, I had a great Gyro at the 5th street market.  I really wanted more, but had to resist the temptation.

Now the Spawn is Sick too

My little girl got sick last night, about 10:30 or so.

Really sick.

Pea soup style.

Ick.

She took a nice shower and now she has taken over the bucket, we’re filling her with Green Tea now too.

Ugh.

I’m still sore, and now I’m totally without sleep since yesterday morning.  I was all living dead in the AM yesterday, so I have no idea how long I’ve really been awake.  Yesterday was the longest day in recent memory and it has stretched it’s arms into the morning and kept me from sleep.

You Bastard Monday!!!!

I’m still sore, but I’m not sick.  I’ve just cleared my slate here at work (such as I could) and thought I’d post a blog post before I Green’d up myself.  Wonderful stuff.

Best. Villain. Ever

Who’s your favorite movie villain?

I really REALLY Can’t say.

I thought this would be a dawdle, easy ’nuff.

I cannot for the life of me come up with a villain I like more than the others.

Umm, I like Zombies the best, and I really can’t just say “Zombies” can I?

When I was more angsty and emo, I would have said “Lestat” as he was a cool Vampire Dude, but I know, he was just a preening metro-sexual twerp.

I’m staring at my DVD collection, looking for inspiration…recently I’ve been toying with “Mr. Svenning” from Mallrats and Chasin AMy, like “You should have seen what Mr. Svenning did when he found me doing X” but he’s not really a movie villain.  Just an Antagonist.

The Kurgan, Interesting, the Bad Guy from “The Highlander”, played by Clancy Brown (who would have been a better sabertooth than any fricking wrestler).  Good Choice.

Simon Phoenix, from Demolition Man.  Now I’m circling it.  Played by Welsley Snipes, cool as hell.

Shoot, yeah, Denis Leary in Judgment Night.  Good Villain.  Played his schtick up well, had the guys from House of Pain in his Posse.  Irish Gangsters.  Good Flick.

Mr. Hand! Richard O’Brian plays freaky weirdos better than almost anyone.  He takes on the mind of a serial killer to track down Rufus Sewell.  Check out the Pawns of Null-A for a version of this story that makes the movie even better.  It’s a thin comparison… but yeah.
Speaking of Rufus Sewell; Count Adhemar of Anjou, from Knight’s Tale. Weighed, Measured and fun to watch him fall.  He didn’t even have to die for it.  Good Stuff.

I had considered Top Dollar, from “The Crow”

I just can’t decide.  Damn.
