Hello Cleveland

If you had a band, what would you call yourselves?
Question submitted by Zoot.

If I had a band I’d call it “Cindy Mae’s Cheerleader Atrocity Engine

The only music I have any talent with is electronic and glitch-noise based, I’d almost have to confine myself to the “emo-techno” genre. With a name like that though, I’d sure sell a great deal of t-shirts.  Maybe even have an organization like the PMRC come after me.  That’d be sweet.

I have been in a band before though, even released a couple of tracks solo.

If you ever hear some lame techno stuff labeled as by “KWCrush” or “BBCrush” you might be listening to one of my old tracks (1994-1996) produced in 4 tracks with an old 386 and a tape deck, using live samples from my answering machine, television and the radio.  Good times.

“i don’t wanna”  was my best track.

Ah Flippin' Heck

The mild “stuffed with walnuts and meat” feeling I had in my sinuses yesterday afternoon became, “overflowing with meat” in the evening requiring doses of pain medication to deal with it.  My head felt like it was being pressed open by a mass of ever-expanding meat.  (Still kinda does)

I’ve got some kind of head-cold and it meant that this morning I stayed home and attended a meeting from bed.  I went back to sleep and caught about 10 hours of sleep in total.
I don’t feel *that* much better now, but I don’t think I’ll need pain medicaton to deal.

Various Stuff and Thoughts

I had a great nap earlier, slept right through House.  I have most of the episodes recorded so it’s no big loss.

Dead like me is back on TV, so NiteGirl is totally psyched and recording them obssessivley. I’m thinking I know what to get her for Christmas this year, SOCKS.

It was pretty busy at work today, and I’ve been a little sick (some kind of head cold) so my patience has been pretty worked.  I’m going to have to sleep better tonight, especially since I have a meeting at 8am for a product group I have nothing to do with.  Fun stuff.

My burn from the weekend still hurts in places, but the one on my forhead is crfacking in peeling, I should be a barrel of laughs tomorrow.

I’m almost done with “The Human Condition” which is just a series of short stories, I’ve based through about 13 Graphic novels and 25 issues of JSA in between. I really should focus on one book at a time.

I’ve got to get back on WoW this week, hopefully snagging more of my Wildheart set.  I have the gloves and bracers now. I also have the entire volcanic set on.  It’s nice to have the extra buffs.

I’ve almost recovered my itunes collection and was pretty choosey on it.  When I’m done I’ll back it up to my external drive and feel a great deal better.

Middle Name

What’s your middle name?  Is there a story or history behind it?

I don’t have a middle name, but my first name is interesting.
[Kevin] was not my ‘rents first choice, their first choice was Kenneth. After a famous footballer, Kenneth Dalglish a member of the Celtic Football Club (Glasgow, Scotland, God Bless them all)

Anyway, Kenny apparently left the club and my Dad was so disgusted that they changed my name, which apparently means “Handsome One” in Gaelic, so, yeah, awesome. [Gaelic: ‘comely birth’, Saint Kevin founded Glendalough 618 ad]

Better than the Original?

What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray.

Easy “Whiskey in the Jar – By Metallica”

While I love the Thin Lizzy recording (which I’m not sure is the original but c’est la vie), Metallica put such an awesome spin to it you just can’t help but get into it.

The close second (Blasphemy) “Faith” by “The Boy Least likely to” [do not miss the chance to listen to it loud].  This is a great cover for the Q Magazine goes to the 80s collection (and a B-Side I think) How often are you going to hear a song you can dance to that has banjos and a song you can sing along with? Inspired!  Faith reminds me of my last few years in grade school and my first years of High School.  These are mostly bitter memories, but there is some sweet there too. I was and still am a giant dork after all.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention “Behind Blue Eyes” by “Limp Bizkit”  I really love that cover.  Damn me.

Movies Landmark my Life

Today we were discussing the way I sometimes use movies landmark my life.  I do it with songs too, but movies mark a number of parts of my life.

Earthquake or Sinbad mark my earliest memories of the movies.  With Jaws being the first movie that scared the crap out of me.

Alien will always remind me of the seldom-visited basement of my Aunt and Uncles house.

Love and a .45 will always remind me of parties in Bruce County and New Years in particular.

The Princess Bride, Clueless, Babe, Pocahontas, Aladdin, The Lion King and Clerks will always remind me of my First Real (grown up) love, and The Great Mouse Detective too. We shared alot of first view of movies and things.

For some reason National Lampoons Senior Trip and Interview with a Vampire will always remind me of meeting my wife.  However it is the song “Enjoy the Silence” is more meaningful there.

I’m sure I could dig deeper and deeper, how Jay and Silent Bob remind me of some friends (Brian, Pete and Twwly). The movie Exit to Eden reminds me of my Friends Angie and Lynette.

We all have these associations, I’m sure in your life there is a phrase from our common cultural lexicon that will forever remind you of someone or something you think about from time to time.

The Song “Now is the Time” that is used all over the place in Happy Hardcore reminds me of my best man “Shawn” and the phrase “He’ll be okay in 15 minutes, but I wouldn’t give him any doughnuts” reminds me of Chris, my best friend from home.
Yeah.  I’ve got a lot of memories and it’s true what you all have said, the bad ones tend to fade as I get older and it is sweet.

Good Morning

It was a decent enough weekend, and I got a good sleep last night.  I’ve been banging away this morning at an ISA install in a VM.  It is simply not cooperating.

It is the 11th anniversary of the first time I saw “The Great Mouse Detective”  YAY!

Smothers Brothers and Sons

Today was the company picnic, a bright sunny August Day in the park.

My Family had a great time, but I don’t think they took enough of advantage of the free food and drink, oh well.  They played the games over and over, but my patience for long lines is about as thick as the “Sons of the Soil” good dining guide.  After standing the sun for as long as we did I’m burned and frustrated and carrying an armload of crap.

On a side note, friends can see pix from the picnic on my flickr page, I only took three.

I met one of the Smothers Brothers kids.  I was mouthing off about an event and he asked me to name myself, I guessed he might be an exec staff so I wouldn’t say who I was, he handed me his business card “Steve Smothers” of “Smothers Speciality Foods: makers of “Little Stevie’s Seasonings”  I gave up my name then.
I told him “You have a famous name” he said “I have a famous Dad” and pointed to his hat.  I was was a little star struck, since I believe I’d seen this guy on tv (from when he was a kid)  but we just parted ways after a bit.

After that, The Spawn got an inflatable crayon for a Friends son and I got a nice sno-cone.  Then we left.

A spent a bit at the book shop and have a whole bunch of the “Books of Magic” as well as a new Flash and “Y the last man” books too.

After the Spawn went to bed we watched “The Island” which was good, but the plot was pretty much see-through.  I wish the plot wasn’t so telegraphed.

Now we are watching this japanese flick where th characters are on some sort of radioactive dump and there are giant flowers, I think it might actually be a Godzilla flick.

Edit: I couldn’t have been more wrong, The title of the move is Yume or “Akira Kurosawa’s: Dreams”  [I think it was all the radiation talk and giant plants] I had to go to the inhd website to find the actual name of the film.

My time Travelling Alarm Clock

I had no idea time travel was so simple, just hit snooze on your alarm clock and BAM it’s 2 hours later!

My alarms are set up at 4:00 AM and 4:30 AM to get me to work for 5:00 AM; this should work to wake me up.  I think that since i moved my alarm clock to my bedside table from its former perch accross the room has failed me.  It will have to move back, since having to get out of bed to hit snooze was such a boon to making me wake up.

Funny though, when I woke up initially I turned on the TV and saw some of “The Rock” when I drifted back off and finally woke up again, it was “caddyshack 2” but I remember thinking that it was strange that the Rock had such 80s music in it (as I could hear the opening theme to caddyshack 2 as I woke up.

“That’s a wicked Hook you got there”
